The Lower Florida Keys

Ohio Key and Island of Bahia Honda

Traveling south on US Highway 1 about half way down the chain of islands known as The Florida Keys, you will cross the longest bridge in the chain, the 7 Mile Bridge. At that point you have entered the Lower Keys. The first populated area you will notice is on Ohio Key and is the Sunshine Key campgrounds and marina. Located Gulf side at MM 38. The 75-acre island provides the perfect gateway to ocean activities or just relaxing at the ocean's edge. With a total of 400 campsites Sunshine Key amenities include an Arcade/Game Room, Boat Launch, Boat/Canoe/Kayak Rentals, Fishing; Marina; Planned Recreation, Recreation Hall and Water Sport rentals.

Bahia Honda State Park

Traveling further down the Overseas Highway the next area you will come upon is the Island of Bahia Honda where you will find Bahia Honda State Park. Named one of the top ten beaches in the world; Bahia Honda has Ocean and Gulf side beaches, camping, cabin rentals, boat launch ramps, snorkeling a marina, nature center, nature trails and one of the best beaches in the world. The beach at the north east end of the park, named Sandspur Beach is slightly remote with some of the prettiest white sand melting into the turquoise waters of the islands.
